Where to rest in Sicily.

Sicily  or Trinacria (this was the name of this largest island of the Mediterranean Sea in antiquity) is located at the base of the Italian Boot and is washed by three seas: Ionian in the east, Tyrrhenian in the north and west and the Mediterranean in the south. Sicily is attractive for its unique nature, delicious cuisine, great beaches for every taste and a wide variety of excursion routes. Choosing a tour to Sicily, you will get the best impressions from excursions, outdoor activities or shopping, enjoy a beach holiday with children or a walk on a yacht on small islands, take a climb to Etna - the highest active volcano in Europe.

The best resorts of Sicily  - These are beaches with white quartz or gray volcanic sand, countless coves and bays, the purest clear warm sea with an incredible color of water from sky blue to deep black. The mountains and hills are surrounded by the greenery of citrus orchards, olive groves, oleanders and eucalyptus trees, agaves, fig trees and, of course, vineyards. Sicily is an island of animated myths and legends. Homer settled the listigorons here, on the top of Etna there was the cave of the Cyclops Polyphemus, which Odysseus managed to deceive, and the shores of the Strait of Messina, separating Sicily from the mainland of Italy, were guarded by the monsters Scile and Charybdis. Sicily is a special world, separated from mainland Italy by centuries of its own history and culture: the most diverse peoples of Africa and Europe managed to visit Sicily and leave a rich legacy: the island owes the Greeks theaters and temples, and the Romans an amazing mosaic; Arabs presented Sicily with various architectural techniques in the Moorish style, the Normans presented magnificent Romanesque cathedrals in Cefal and Montreal, and the Spaniards gave the Baroque pretentiousness (this style can still be seen in many Sicilian palaces and churches). Sicily is a unique example of religious tolerance, because here for many centuries several world religions coexisted peacefully, such as Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Currently, in Sicily, one can meet an Orthodox Church, a Jewish synagogue, a Catholic church and a Muslim mosque — sometimes even in one province.

Sicily resorts - this is a holiday all year round. In addition to the national Italian holidays, each city of Sicily especially celebrates the day of its heavenly patron, arranging concerts, street processions and fireworks. Summer: season of theater, cinema and music in Taormina (July), the feast of Saint Rosalia in Palermo (July 10-16), a procession in honor of the founders of the Messina mythical Mata and Gryphon (August 13 and 14), the procession of Vary, glorifying the Assumption of Mary (15 August). In the fall and winter, harvest holidays are celebrated in Sicily (the feast of blossoming almonds in Agrigento in February), Saint Agatha is honored in Catania (3-5 February), and Acireale annually hosts the most famous carnival in Sicily. Spring: a holiday in honor of the patroness of the city of Syracuse, St. Lucia (1st and 2nd Sunday of May), the festival of flowers in Noto (3rd Sunday of May), the festival of St. George in Ragusa (April 25), the holiday of cheerful inventors in Cefalu ( the end of May).

Sicily is called the island of the sun god Helios, because it is the sunniest island in the Mediterranean. Geographical proximity to the coast of Africa allows Sicily to maintain optimal climatic conditions for recreation throughout the year, so the swimming season is already beginning to read in late April and ends no earlier than November. In Sicily, the climate is mild, with a noticeable temperature difference between the inner part of the island and the coast, heavy rains occur rarely (sometimes there are no months), and the air temperature even in winter, as a rule, is rarely below +10 - +15 degrees (water temperature less than 16 degrees). At the same time, in Sicily, the sultry African wind "Shirokko" often blows, bringing sand with it. For exploring the nature and cultural and historical heritage of the island, it is best to choose the period from mid-April to mid-June, as well as the beginning of autumn (tours of Sicily by car are especially popular during this period).

Water and air temperature in the resorts of Sicily

How to get there. The airports of Catania and Palermo take regular flights of the airlines Alitalia and Fly Meridiana (a flight from Moscow with a transfer in Rome or Milan, a domestic flight to the island will take only an hour and a half). There are also direct flights to the following European and Italian cities: Naples, London, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Cologne, Zurich, Munich, Florence, Bologna, Olbia, Paris, Turin, Verona, Brussels. This allows you to combine a beach holiday in Sicily with excursions, shopping and recreation in other regions and countries. In the summer, direct charter flights to Catania and Palermo from Moscow are organized. Sicily can be reached by train, which in the city of Villa San Giovanni in the south of Italy is loaded by the whole train on the ferry to cross the Strait of Messina (journey time from Rome is about 9 hours). For motorists, the road along the coast of mainland Italy will be interesting by car (the journey from Naples to Messina including the twenty-minute ferry will take about 7-8 hours). From the Italian ports of Livorno, Genoa and Naples ferries depart to the port of Palermo (travel time is 17-20 hours), the high-speed ferry takes you from Catania to the island of Malta in 3 hours. Popular routes of cruise liners pass through Palermo and Catania.

  • Marina di Noto;
  • Fontane Bianche;
  • Marina di Avola;
  • Portopalo di Capopascero;
  • San Marzamemi.

The coast of this beach is equipped with golden sand and sun beds. Lido di Noto has everything you need for a comfortable beach holiday.

The free beach of Noto is Arennela, which is located 10 km from the city. The only drawback is the inaccessibility to it: it is better to get to this place by taxi or own car, as there is a poor transport connection from Syracuse.
  A good option for a holiday in Sicily is the Maddalena Peninsula, which is located 12 kilometers from Syracuse. Surrounded by rocky terrain, the beach area is ideal for snorkeling and diving. The emerald water is crystal clear here. Near the beach there is a gorge where you can take a little trip.

Between the two provinces of Syracuse - Avola and Pachino, on the territory of the reserve "Wendicari" is located the beach of Cala Mosque with a sandy beach. It is located between two capes, because of which creates excellent conditions for diving. In addition, there is a very beautiful nature and a large number of "living creatures" that lives in the reserve - herons, cormorants, flamingos, storks, etc.

Beaches of Sicily: Catania

One of the best resort cities of Sicily Catania is also famous for its beaches. The best of them are concentrated in La Playa. The beach area stretched for almost two dozen kilometers. It is believed that it is on the coast of Catania the cleanest water.

Beyond the area of La Playa is the so-called Cyclops Coast. This area has a slightly gloomy view and is surrounded by rocks. But the local beach also has its charm and is fairly well equipped.

In addition to these beaches, in Catania there are other areas for recreation at sea. Among them are San Marco, Praiola di Jarre, Santa Tecla and Stazzo.

On this list of beaches of Catania and Sicily is far from exhausted. Here they are concentrated a great many, almost the entire coast of the island. All of them are good in their own way and are able to give an unforgettable vacation at sea.

Sicily is an incredibly beautiful island located at the foot of the "Italian boot". Almost all recreation areas on its territory are of the class "luxury" and are intended for families with high incomes.

Despite this, in Sicily, everyone can find what he likes, however, in some cases it can be very difficult to do.

Description of Sicily

In Sicily, many seek to get. It attracts travelers with its unique nature, extremely tasty and exquisite cuisine, all sorts of sandy beaches, as well as a variety of interesting excursion routes.

In addition, Sicily is the sunniest island in the Mediterranean. This is an incredibly attractive place for tourists rather close to the shores of Africa, but, unlike in Egypt and other African countries, there is no such sweltering heat here.

Sicily maintains optimal conditions for the rest of any family during the entire calendar year.

The swimming season on its territory usually begins from the first days of April, and ends around mid-November. At the same time, even in winter, the air temperature here almost never drops below +15 degrees Celsius, and water - below +16 degrees. Rain on the island of dreams also happens quite rarely and, in most cases, they pass in just a few hours.

Which resorts of sunny Sicily is better to prefer?

Just looking at the map of Sicily, you can see a large number of resorts, with each of which you want to definitely get to know better. If we begin to consider this territory from the Strait of Messina, which separates the island from the mainland, the first thing to do here is the Calabrian city of Messina, founded back in 730 BC. e. The length of the beach of this resort is more than 200 meters, and on its territory are located the most popular holiday destinations, such as Taormina and the Aeolian Islands.

The city of Taormina itself is located on the east coast. It is surrounded by a huge number of cypresses, citrus trees and palm groves. Such a variety of vegetation contributes to the fact that the air in Taormina is simply amazing. Every summer there is a very bright and interesting festival of theater, music and dance in this city, which is attended by creative people from different parts of our planet.

In this place you can very closely get acquainted with the ancient Greco-Roman culture. Almost at every step there are numerous monuments and medieval palaces.

The Aeolian, or Lipari, islands were formed as a result of the rise of the seabed due to volcanic activity. There are absolutely extraordinary black sandy beaches, cliffs, caves, reefs and many thermal springs.

Some tourists choose this place for permanent rest and book a room in one of the local hotels, each of which is worthy of being called the best. Nevertheless, most travelers prefer to live in other places in order to be able to move freely around the territory of other beach resorts in Sicily, and here they only come for excursions and exciting walks.

Also on the territory of Messina, you may be interested in such beach resorts as:

  • Milazzo;
  • Timpassi;
  • Spadafora;
  • Funari;
  • Roccalumera;
  • Scaletta Canklee;
  • San Gregorio;
  • Nice di Sicilia;
  • Rhodium;
  • San Saba.

One of the best resorts of Sicily are the territories that surround the province of Agrigento.

The beaches in this area are simply amazing in their purity and naturalness and are among the twenty most popular holiday destinations for tourists from all over the world. The pearl of the island is located on its western shore, where it can be a little uncomfortable during the summer heat, namely, in July and August.

This is especially true for elderly travelers, families with young children and those suffering from diseases of the cardiovascular system. So tourists can go and Agrigento only in June, September or October, when there is no sweltering heat on the street.

On the territory of this province is located the famous Skala dei Turki beach, or "Turkish stairs"which has a rather peculiar stepped relief. Being in this area, be sure to visit this piece of land, as it is incredibly attractive at any time of the year.

If, however, your vacation is scheduled in the middle of summer, it is better to give preference to the resorts of Sicily in the Ionian Sea. The water temperature here rarely rises above 22 degrees, and the Ionian Sea is the cleanest, so it is much better suited for bathing young children.

The most popular place here is Catania, where you expect about 60 kilometers of incredibly beautiful sandy beaches for every taste.

In this area, paid and free places of rest are constantly alternating, so everyone will be able to choose what is suitable for him according to his financial position.

Unfortunately, almost all hotels in Catania and on the coast of the Ionian Sea in general are very expensive, so only a small part of Russian families can afford to rest in them.

Charges for a much lower cost for accommodation and other services are exhibited by hotels located deep in the island in the city of Caltanissetta. From some of them it is necessary to get to the sea for quite a long time, but, as a rule, it does not annoy tourists at all.

The best beaches in this province are as follows:

  • Punta Secca;
  • Funntarossa;
  • Lungomare;
  • Femmin Mort;
  • Manfria;
  • Montelungo

Separate descriptions, no doubt, deserve and resorts of Sicily, located on the coast of Ragusa.

In this area, the length of which is more than 60 kilometers, you can find beaches with a rolling bottom, and shores overgrown with tropical vegetation, and dunes, and interesting places that are popular with professional divers, and various cliffs.

All this every year attracts more and more travelers from around the world.

In any case, whatever place to live in Sicily, you can be sure that your vacation will bring you a lot of positive emotions. Try to visit other parts of this wonderful island - they all deserve to be visited.

Palermo

Palermo is the capital of Sicily, and its amazing artistic treasures from different eras make the city special and unique, Palermo also boasts a beautiful promenade. Brief, accessible and sure useful!
Enjoy your vacation in Sicily!

Good day!
Choose the east! There are many great attractions, nature reserves and beautiful beaches. Catania is a beautiful city (there is something to see). Very rave. Many young people, because here is the university. Just an hour away are the famous Syracuse with many attractions and the opportunity to have fun. South of Syracuse are picturesque beaches (mostly sandy). Near the city of Avola there is a magnificent beach, where mostly local people rest (it is little known to tourists). Here is the reserve "Cassibile River Canyon" with lakes. West of Catania (just 40 minutes by train) is Taormina. There is not much that can compare to this place in beauty. There is a beach Isola Bella (very beautiful). Next to Taorina (almost there) is Jardine Naxos with good beaches. Above Taormina there is an absolutely amazing village called Castelmola.
Among other things, there is Etna without which Sicily is not Sicily.
By the way south of Syracuse (only 20 -25 minutes by car) is the town of Noto - the heart of the Sicilian Baroque valley. If you move further south from Syracuse, you can get to Portopalo, the southernmost point of the island. This place is famous for its beaches and great fish restaurants. By the way, in the town of Avola you can find very inexpensive and very decent housing. In addition, here you can immerse yourself in a real Sicilian life (non-tourist).

Good day, dear lovers!
You made the right choice - the most unforgettable honeymoon can be spent only in Sicily! This is a fabulous island of romance and love! The weather is just perfect: the Mediterranean summer is in full swing, the air temperature is up to 30 degrees, the water temperature is 25-27. If you do not know where to go yet, choose the southernmost province of Sicily: Ragusa, this year only in this province are the three cleanest beaches in Italy. This is Pozzallo, Ispica and Ragusa. Clear sandy beaches with yellow-white sparkling sand and clear Mediterranean Sea. In September, the influx of tourists subsides and you begin to love you in such places as dear guests! There are a lot of restaurants in the province! Tasty: I highly recommend to follow the Mediterranean diet with snacks, i.e. antipasto, pasta or pasta and main course of your choice. In the south of Sicily, they love and know how to cook fish well. By the way, do not be surprised in the south are served to fish red wine.
All the sights are nearby: Etna and Syracuse, Baroque Southern Sicily, Agrigento, Caltagirone and Piazza Armerina, if desired, you can get to Palermo, although the road is not close.
Sincere congratulations and best wishes from sunny and hospitable Sicily!

Partially agree with the private guide - Sicily is beautiful, but it is impossible to so intrusively suggest the area of Ragusa, which is not promoted by tourism. Young people who want to have vivid impressions and parties on a honeymoon, and you want to go to Ragusa ... From which you can even get to Catania if you don't rent a car. My advice is any hotel in Taormina is the middle of the east coast, so the same distance and good transport links with Catania, Messina, Etna, Eolian Islands ... Or consider the club complex Shakkamare (Sciacca), this is the south, the Mediterranean Sea. On the vast territory of 4 hotels, green olive groves, the service is decent and respectful. We went several times, and once every 2-3 years again pulls there. Good luck and good impressions. Ask questions if I can answer. I love Sicily, as an individual tourist, who has traveled around her not by car, but by buses, trains, taxis, and just with good people-friendly Sicilians ..

Good afternoon, I can’t say anything about the Alexander Hotel, but judging by the map I’ll say that the hotel is not on the beach, you will have to go to the city beach, and this is for a fee, does the hotel have a beach ?. Look at this town Hilton Giardini Naxos-Super hotel, on the seashore, dinners on the open terrace by candlelight ... very romantic, or the club Atahotel Naxos BeacH Resot - here you can even take not the main building, but living in villas (small two-story houses ), located either on the sea, or in the garden, a little further from the sea. Although there is 3-5 minutes. When we were, we settled on the loungers by the pool, and we only went 30 meters to swim in the sea, because in the summer the sun beds were charged. Both hotels have their own beach, territory, 2-3 minutes to the bus stop. See the map and see the difference. Your journey is already in the middle of September, prices should become more affordable ... Read reviews. But the hotel offered to you is unknown, although in this town were 4 times.
