Dollar tree how to propagate correctly. Dollar tree: how to care for him at home, to multiply and replant

The dollar tree was nicknamed for its ability to attract money. How to care for a dollar tree at home, how to transplant, multiply, what else should be done to make the plant live up to its hopes?

The dollar tree: how to care for the key to wealth?

The dollar tree is popular name  Zamiokulkasa, the South American guest in our latitudes. Flower growers appreciate him for his unpretentiousness and for the beautiful legend that the plant attracts luck and wealth.

This flower looks great in the house and in office space. Long branches with glossy large sheets make a vivid impression and attract the attention of others. Of course, those who want to purchase this plant are interested in how a dollar tree blooms. Zamioculcas is rarely seen at the time of flowering - only in adulthood. Outwardly, the flowers are rather unattractive: they are light cobs with pale small buds. But surrounded by lush green elongated leaves, they look very original.

After a dollar tree has been brought into the house, how to take care of it becomes the most pressing issue. Proper care of the plant, bringing wealth to their owners, is a restrained watering, good location and regular fertilizer.

Water the dollar tree should be only when the top layer of soil dries. In winter, the frequency of watering should be reduced. The fact is that the plant came to us from arid edges, so it does not tolerate excess moisture. In winter, Zamiokulkas is at rest and also reacts negatively to frequent watering. In especially hot summer days  twice a week, you can wipe the leaves with a wet cloth.

Choosing a place for a dollar tree, it is better to give preference to the windowsill on the sunny side. But make sure that your zamiokulkas are not under the burning rays. The temperature in the room should be between +30 and +16 degrees Celsius.

Care at home for a dollar tree is regular fertilizer. Usually, the composition of nutrients for cacti is used for this purpose. Just do not wait for instant results: zamiokulkas will begin to grow rapidly only after several months of regular fertilizer. In winter, the plant does not feed.

Acquiring a symbol of financial well-being, you should ask how to transplant a dollar tree. It is not recommended to “relocate” the plant immediately after purchase: for some time the flower should be in quarantine, get used to the new environment. For transplantation, the method of transfer is usually chosen: the dollar tree is transferred to the new pot along with the soil from the previous one. It is better to give preference to a large pot, as in a small container the plant will not be able to develop intensively. At the bottom of the pot is placed a layer of drainage, and the rest of the space is filled with soil for cacti.

To propagate a dollar tree, first you need to choose one of three methods of propagation:

  • rhizome;
  • leaves;
  • cuttings.

The first method is the easiest, since you only need to divide the rhizome between processes and plant each new tuber in a separate pot.

Reproduction of leaves and cuttings requires more time. The scheme consists of the following steps.

  1. A leaf or cutting is cut from the mother plant and dried on gauze for a couple of days. Make sure that the juice of the plant does not get on your skin, as it is poisonous and can cause a burn.
  2. After that, the leaf (stalk) is placed in a small pot with a mixture of peat and sand. It should cover a scion by a third.
  3. Escape plentifully watered and covered with cellophane or a can to create a miniature greenhouse.
  4. Once a week the bank or cellophane are removed for ventilation.
  5. After the young shoots appear, the plant is planted in a pot of soil.

Zamiokulkas is a plant belonging to the aroid family, a relative of Monstera and Dieffenbachia. This plant became famous and popular in the middle lane not so long ago - at the end of the 20th century, when it began to be brought to the Dutch flower markets.

This flower immediately became very popular due to its unpretentious and elegant appearance. This is a perennial herb with a thick tuberous root. Immediately from the tuber grow long, complex leaves, swollen at the base, dark green, glossy. On each sheet there are about 10 sheet plates, which can be mistaken for leaves, since they have the form of a simple sheet. The leaf consists of a thick vein called rachis, and leaflets are attached to it. With good care, the plant very quickly turns into a gorgeous shrub, and looks very impressive. There are some difficulties in growing it: it is enough not to flood the plant and not to keep it in an excessively cold room.

Reproduction zamiokulkasa sheet

Zamiokulkas can be propagated by seed, by dividing a tuber, by a leaf, or even by a part of a leaf. The last option is the most difficult to implement, so it is worth it in more detail.

If we take a whole leaf for breeding Zamiokulkas, it will take root and form a tuber much faster than a part of the leaf. But if you exactly follow the signs, and grow a dollar tree for a money increase, then the leaf must be unnoticed somewhere to pick. And it is much easier to do this with a part of a sheet than with a whole. In adult plants, a whole leaf can reach a length of 60 cm.

A torn leaf can be left without water and land for quite a long time, it is considered yes. It can be put on rooting both in a container with water and in the ground or a special substrate - vermiculite or coarse sand. It is most convenient to stick a leaf in a pot to another plant, in which there is enough space. This will guarantee that he will not forget to water. But, leaving a leaf in the water, you can witness how the tuber with roots is born.

It will take a long time to wait in either case. Zamioculcas is always growing spasmodically, and until the moment when it gains strength for its first jump, a lot of time will pass. Most often, the owners of the plant ask this question: why does zamiakulkas not grow. His imaginary inaction does not mean a quick death. If the sheet is periodically excavated (which is not recommended), in a month you can notice a growth and roots in the place where the tuber will soon be.

Depending on the soil, the frequency of irrigation and the amount of fertilizer, the rooted leaf can stand without movement for up to six months. When planting, you need to deepen the leaf into the ground to half or a little more. When the tuber at its end in size increases to the size of a quail egg, the first leaves will begin to grow. Perhaps the first two or three will not be as big as his parent, perhaps they will have only one or two pairs of leaves. Entering the next phase of growth, he will grow full-fledged leaves.

The main pests that affect the zamiokulkas are the scale insect and spider mite. They destroy spider mites by spraying the leaves with tobacco extract, wash the plant with laundry soap, or treat it with insecticides, which are offered by stores. You need to fight the shield with the same means, but first you need to remove the pest itself with a wet swab dipped in a solution of kerosene or laundry soap.

Even if the entire above-ground part of the plant is affected, many new zamiokulkas can be grown from the leaves and parts of the stem and tuber, since the vitality of this flower knows no boundaries. His ancestors living in Africa are reborn after severe droughts.

Houseplants.

For many nations, a Zamioculkas or a dollar tree is considered a symbol of wealth, an aid in financial matters that attracts financial well-being to a house. But the main thing is a beautiful ever-green houseplant that will decorate any interior.

Zamioculcas (Zamioculcas) is a monotypic genus of plants of the Aroid family (subfamily Aroideae, tribe Zamioculcadeae). The birthplace of the flower is tropical Africa. Zamiokulkas is a succulent (it is a plant that is able to store moisture inside the leaves, stem and roots, which it uses during the drought), 0.6–1 m high. . Rhizome - large, tuberous, powerful. Zamiokulkas flower in shape - the ear, which contains small nondescript flowers. Cob

formed in the lower part of the plant, not very noticeable.

Zamiokulkas grows slowly.

In the care zamiokulkas not quite whimsical.

How to care for a dollar tree (zamiokulkas)?

Indoor air temperature : 18 ° C to 27 ° C; in winter 17-18 ° C, but not lower than 17 ° C.

Indoor air humidity : Zamiokulkas does not require spraying of the leaves. Sometimes you can wash the leaves

The soil.   Planting - in loose soil - a mixture consisting of equal parts of sand, soil and peat. Be sure to arrange in the pot drainage.

Lighting : the pot should have stood in a lit place, the light is not direct solar, diffused. In the summer, it is desirable to bring to fresh air, in the winter - closer to the window.

The plant loves fresh air, so in the summer it can be transferred to the balcony.

Watering zamiokulkasa (dollar tree). How to care for a plant so as not to rot?

Watering - moderate (in the summer once a week), in winter - rare (one, maximum twice a month), the soil should dry well until the next watering, in winter and even less often - once a month. For irrigation, use separated water at room temperature, and the soil should be moistened as the soil dries.

Lead to rotting of the roots and the formation of stem rot can stagnate water in the soil.

Top dressing zamiokulkasa (dollar tree): for fertilizing use the same fertilizer as for other succulents, as well as cacti. Apply 1 time in 2-3 weeks from the beginning of March to the end of October.

Transplanting a young dollar tree:   in the spring - once a year, an adult (old plants, if the root system is closely in a pot) - once in 2 years. A pot for zamiokulkas should be proportionate to the root system. Soil for young plants: 1 part of sod land, 1 part of leafy land, 1 part of peat and 1 part of sand. When transplanting, the tubers do not need to be deeply dug into the ground, they should be slightly visible on the surface.

Reproduction of zamiokulkas (dollar tree).   You can: by dividing a bush, by seeds (difficult to find), by a leaf or branches - by cuttings.

In nature, a dollar tree is propagated with the help of seeds, in room conditions it is possible to plant branches-cuttings. Before planting, they must first be dried for 2-3 days.

Leaf: Carefully cut off one of the bottom sheets. Place the cut immediately sprinkle pre-crushed activated carbon. Before planting, it is better to dry the leaf a little or to plant it immediately in dry sand to a depth of no more than 1.5 cm. After 5-6 months a tuber will appear, which is transplanted into the soil. Cuttings need to be moistened periodically.

Adult plant division: the plant is removed from the pot, the rhizome is divided, dried, then each part is planted in a separate pot.
