After describing this plant in Europe, they began to grow the radermaheru in flower greenhouses and winter gardens, but soon the decorative deciduous tree established itself as an unpretentious houseplant.

For beautiful brilliant bright green leaves and lush crown, Rydermacher is called emerald tree. The second name of this plant, stereosperm, is less known; in Greek it means “stereo” - solid and “spermos” - seed.

In winterwhen only monochrome black and white colors are visible outside the window, we are particularly pleased at home flowering indoor plants. These flowers are imported from regions with a tropical and subtropical climate, therefore, for the onset of flowering of these plants, it is important to create conditions close to natural ones, such as temperature, lighting and watering. There are plants that need coolness for the onset of flowering, which can only be created in winter, while changing the duration of light also affects the formation of buds.

Winter is a difficult time for indoor plants, and for flowering plants it is a double test, since during the heating season the apartments create a hot atmosphere with very dry air, like in the desert, while this time of year is the shortest light day. More favorable conditions for flowering indoor plants in the winter will be in greenhouses, warmed light verandas or loggias.

Indoor Bulb Flowers  families Amaryllite  admire the beauty of flowering. After a period of rest, the bulb of a plant releases a long, slender peduncle from the ground, at the end of which large lily flowers bloom, and the belt-like leaves complement the elegant appearance of the flower.

Most popular bulbous flower  -. The genus Hippeastrum unites 75 species of bulbous perennial plants, however, due to the confusion in its history, it is often called Amaryllis. The genus Amaryllis (Amaryllis) includes only one plant - amaryllis beautiful or belladonna (Amaryllisbelladonna). This bulbous plant grows in forest or desert areas of South Africa, where dry cool season reigns in summer and rainy season in winter. While Hippeastrum hails from the tropics of South America with others natural conditionstherefore, these two flower-like flowers have different life cycles, and the care for amaryllis is slightly different from the agrotechnology of growing hippeastrum.

Spurge, or euphorbia - A succulent plant, belongs to the family Euphorbia. All over the globe, representatives of this genus are distributed, a fifth of which are found practically only in Central and Southern Africa.

Euphorbia also grows in central Russia in the wild. They can be found on the fields, along roads, along river banks.

It should be remembered that all types of euphorbia  contain milky sap. The milky juice contains toxic substances that can cause burns, inflammation of the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose; when injected into the stomach, the milky juice can cause an impairment of the functions of the gastrointestinal tract. Therefore, when working with euphorbia better to wear gloves.

The poisonous properties of some African euphorbia were used by local hunters for the manufacture of poisoned arrowheads, as well as in folk medicine - for kidney disease, as a laxative, anesthetic, antihelminthic, as an antacid for bites of rabid animals.

In addition, the milky milkweed juice  used in perfumery, it is added to bleaching creams and lotions against freckles. From the juice of some species of milkweed, rubber was obtained, there are even milkweeds, which can be eaten and used as animal feed by removing the spines previously.

Growing and caring for milkweed in room conditions  exactly the same as succulents.

For the cultivation of milkweed, an earthen mixture of two parts of leafy ground, two parts of sand, and three parts of clay-sod land is suitable.

In spring and summer - quite abundant watering, dry content of euphorbia in autumn and winter.

The temperature regime in winter for euphorisms of African descent should not be lower than +12 0 С, for Mediterranean + 6 + 10 0 С.

Reproduction. Euphorbia perfectly propagated by cuttings, grafting and even seeds. The annual transfer to milkweeds is not needed, they can grow for several years in the same pot.

Lovers room sparrows  African euphoria will bring much pleasure. They are interesting because in the indoor environment completely, in all external details, they repeat the forms of their relatives from the wild nature. One has only to create suitable climatic conditions - and the coincidence of forms is one to one. This phenomenon is called a convergence by botanists.

Of all the many species of euphorbia (about 2000) we will get acquainted with their most popular representatives.

When I started to write this article, I thought of writing only about one species - spurge tirukalli, which is currently quite a fashionable plant. Gradually, in the process of writing, more and more new types of euphoria came across. To be honest, I didn’t even hear about many, and I took some types of euphorbia for cacti. Euphorbia finest, or poinsettia, is not included in the list, since I wrote about it earlier.

Someone this article may seem too big and tedious, and someone will expand their horizons, just as I myself. Some will want to have some euphorbia in their home, and someone, having seen long, thick spines, will say: I would never have such a plant in the world. And someone just admires photo milkweed.

When breeding plants, few people are interested in the question of what flowers can not keep at home. However, there are both scientific evidence of the harmfulness of some flowers, as well as folk signs and feng shui, to which many growers also take seriously.

What does science say about dangerous plants?

First, consider the scientific side of the issue. After all, growing plants, we want them to not only decorate the room, but also to be useful, or at least not to harm the household.

It is no secret that indoor plants can cause serious harm to their owners. So, some of them are poisonous, others are allergens, and still others completely combine these two dangers. In addition, some types of plants can adversely affect the well-being. For example, you may experience headaches or fatigue due to the strong aroma of some flowers.

However, do not panic and throw all the flowers from your window sill. Indeed, in the list of poisonous appear about 50 indoor plants. This is about 2% of their total number!

Black plants can make you feel unwell

Plants Dangerous to Children

First of all, all mothers take care of their children. Therefore, first of all, let's talk about those indoor plants that can be harmful to kids. The danger increases due to their excessive mobility and curiosity. They strive to touch the new inhabitants of the house or try them to taste. Therefore, the choice of plants in the house where there are children, should be approached especially carefully.

Keep children away from the seemingly innocent, and such a favorite plant as lily of the valley, because it contains cardiac glycosides. They damage the cardiovascular system, nervous system, gastrointestinal tract.

Oddly enough, such a seemingly useful plant, as the celandine also got into the list of dangerous plants. This is because it contains milky sap. If it gets on the mucous membranes or even the skin of a child, it can cause redness and burn. At this its negative impact does not end there. The celandine contains alkaloids. If they get into the gastrointestinal tract, the child may be poisoned.

In addition, you should get rid of those plants that have bright fruit. For example, the danger is aglaonema. When self-pollinating, small red berries may appear. Children may want to pick and taste them. However, they are extremely poisonous and can cause serious bodily harm.

Children need to explain which plants are poisonous and why. In the future, it will only be useful to them, and now it will be able to protect them from poisoning.

Among other plants that are absolutely contraindicated for a child’s room, the following can be mentioned:

  • oleander;
  • ehmeya;

  • monstera;
  • dieffenbachia;
  • alokaziya;
  • ficuses

Ficus "Lyrata"

  • cacti;

All of them have negative energy, and some of them are completely poisonous. Others, like ficuses, intensively absorb oxygen at night.

Tip! Considering that it is extremely important for a child to receive a lot of oxygen for normal development, it is better to refuse ficus in the house.

In addition to the danger to children, it should be thought that indoor plants benefit them. So, you need to opt for those colors that have positive energy, add oxygen to the room, and purify the air. For a child it is very important.

Poisonous plants

Poisonous indoor plants are dangerous not only for children, but also for adults. Therefore, check your window sills for the following types of plants:

  • Alokaziya.  All its parts are extremely poisonous.

  • Azalea  (see photo). Its leaves contain toxic substances - glycoside and andromedotoxin. Other parts of the plant are also poisonous. Their swallowing is deadly.

Azalea bonsai. Unfortunately, it is toxic when released into the digestive tract, so move it as far as possible from the places where children have access

  • Anthurium.  The juice of this plant contains strong poison.
  • Clivia  It contains licorin, which can trigger paralysis.

  • Croton.  It has a poisonous milky juice.
  • Monstera  (a photo). Its juice contains strong poison.

  • Oleander  (see photo). It also contains poison. The juice of this plant can even cause vision loss, and the fragrance of such beautiful flowers can cause dizziness. Not in vain, according to the Greek legend, this flower of the wife was placed near the plates of her unfaithful husbands, hinting that the next time he would be in their soup.

  • Poinsettia.  Dangerous with its poisonous milky juice. So, if you cut the leaves of poinsettia, they will emit white poisonous juice, which can cause burns.

Many of these plants, in addition to being poisonous, are also highly allergenic.

Allergenic plants

No matter how sad, but a sufficiently large number of indoor plants, often found in many homes, are allergens during flowering.

Allergens, in addition to the many plants listed above, are pelargonium, fern, cyclamen, rhododendron   (he is azalea) and others. What kind of reaction do they cause in a person? For example, juice aglaonems  able to strongly irritate the skin and mucous membranes.

Dieffenbachia  able to decorate any windowsill thanks to its exquisite large leaves. However, it can cause tissue swelling if it enters the mouth. Why is this beautiful plant poisonous? Dieffenbachia is able to cause poisoning in a child or a pet if they swallow its leaf. In addition, you need to be careful when it is transplanted or trimmed sheets. In this case, you can burn his juice. The same danger is the philodendron.

Croton  and oleander  are also strong allergens, and ficus  and does not occupy the third place after them.

The danger of loved and common plants

Of course, the greatest danger lies in the wild or exotic plants that are unlikely anyone would ever think to grow on his window sill. However, you need to be careful even with such familiar compact plants as begonia, orchid, geranium and hydrangea . What is their danger?

A rare window sill now does without a beautifully blooming geranium. After all, this beautiful plant is unpretentious and does not need special care. In addition, it has a rather long flowering period. However, geraniums can lead to headaches or even severe asthma.

Other houseplants familiar to us are also dangerous. Recently, the cultivation of orchids at home has become firmly in vogue. However, they have a relatively strong pungent odor that can lead to insomnia or simply worsen the mood, which is also unpleasant.

It is fraught with danger and a plant so beloved by many gardeners as azalea. When ingested inside the body of its leaf, it can cause cramps and intestinal colic.

Makes some danger and loved by all begonia . This plant, harmless at first glance, tends to release volatile substances. They fight disease causing germs. Of course, this is a positive property of the plant. However, it is necessary to work with it carefully. That's because begonia contains insoluble oxalic acid salts. They can cause severe burns, as well as irritation of the mouth.

Caution should also be applied to such beautiful colors as lilies. At night, they intensively absorb oxygen and emit carbon dioxide. So do not be surprised if the next morning you wake up with a headache.

Folk omens

There are many legends about which flowers can not be kept at home. Since the majority of avid flower growers are women, most of the people will accept that the husband can leave, change, sleep, die, etc., due to the wrong plant choice. And who among us has not heard the "horror stories" about ivy? Which in no case should not be kept at home, otherwise it is likely that your spouse will leave you. This mainly concerns climbing ivy (see photo). His congenerous wax is contraindicated in an unmarried girl. If she dares to grow it, she is likely to remain an old maid.

Despite beliefs, ivy cleans the air, reducing its microbial content

Thus, according to omens, ivy and marriage are completely incompatible things. And these beliefs have arisen, most likely because ivy is considered an energy vampire.

If some signs can still be believed, then there are strange beliefs. For example, there is a legend among the people that if you were given a palm tree, then it is strictly forbidden to bring it into the house, as this can lead to unhappiness. However, with such a gift you can find a way out of the situation. Palm can just roll into the house on a bicycle.

Trust but check

Despite the paradox of these popular beliefs, many signs are scientifically justified. For example, as described above, it is not recommended to keep a cactus at home because of its danger to children and some other properties. Folk omens also do not trust this thorny plant. It is believed that the cultivation of a cactus house can lead to the fact that the husband will become alcohol-dependent.

Paradoxical signs relate to wealth and happiness. So, should some home plant bloom, then wait for trouble. And if it never blooms, then you should be poor.

Of course, most of these people will take a smile when it comes to indoor plants in modern people, but it’s not for nothing that our ancestors were so attentive to the choice of plants. Therefore, it is not necessary, of course, blindly believe non-native wisdom. It is better to check them with scientific facts. And even if they do not recommend keeping one or another indoor plant at home, it is reasonable to listen to such advice.
